I was close to giving this 5 stars. It was well written if you like this type of stuff. So, it’s gets 2 stars for inspiration for a very disturbing horror flick and for being a book that I’ll probably remember forever. Great story, a little morbid but great! The first time I found this book at the small Bregenz library, I did not pay attention but I got it somehow.

Despite everything Billy was eager to see the mansion. Whitley Strieber is also the author of such novels as Communion and Transformation. It takes a lot of skill to portray a character like that in a believable way, and I think Strieber did a great job of it. The narrative includes glimpses of Barton’s miserable childhood, especially the physical and sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of his father and his recollections of what he has done to other boys before Billy.

What he says or does could be the difference between life and death. Whitley Strieber’s newest novel about a young boy who is kidnapped by a deranged misfit is a shocking look into the dark soul of a psychopath.

But I have to give Strieber a lot of credit for building the suspense the way he did, considering much of the novel is told from Barton’s point of view.

The Art of Raising Hell. I am totally surprised that the book is a real thriller and pageturner. So, once the scary stuff happened, the writer did a good job of not making everything be sunny and merry and all tied bbilly.

This book took me a really long time to read.

The Basics A psychopathic kidnapper by the name of Barton sets his sights on Billy. He picked Billy out of a crowd at the mall, followed his every step, obsessed with this bright, perfect child. For Barton Royal, finding Billy was a dream come true. Ok, for the most part, this book was stupid. Instead of the old wagon, they would have something incredible, like maybe a bright red Bentley Turbo, zero to sixty in six and a half seconds, top end a hundred and sixty, the fastest production sedan in the world.

It takes a lot of skill to portray a character like that in a believable way, and I think Strieber did a great job of it. Apparently a serial killer, he has done this before and makes his plans very carefully, having learned from past mistakes. It grabbed me from the very beginning which has been rare these days with the books I have read and this one kept me involved unti I’ve had this book for years and years and haven’t really wanted to read it but I finally pulled it out.


Billu 29, Thea Sauer rated it it was amazing. He would take him far away, striebe him as the son he’d always wanted. The parts with the kidnapper-Barton, and the boy, Billy, were somewhat interesting but any part that had to do with the police and especially with the parents should be completely skipped.

Ths novel is about child abduction and how it affects the family and it is also a story of trying to survive when you are faced with your worst nightmare.

It is thought provoking, and with Roddy McDowell reading it you feel the drama I read the blurb and wonder if I listened to the same book as is described here. The change in the boy throughout the ordeal seemed rather unrealistic also.
