Aug 26, Jennifer JC-S rated it really liked it. I think Empire of Silver was the weakest in the series however due to a couple reasons. Epire must wonder in reality just how ‘willing’ the historical Tolui was about giving up his life for his older brother.

This book tells the story of the mongols invasion of Russia and eastern Europe. But I soon became swept up in the events, and found myself wanting to know more about the Mongol exploits in Europe.
Without them at the end of this book, my rating iggulen have looked completely different. Refresh and try again. The continued expansion of the empire founded by Genghis results in some epic battle scenes, which Mr Iggulden brings to life, as well as some fascinating description of strategy.
In a spectacular twist ending, as Chagatai is rallying his armies to finally take his fathers throne, he feels a brief sharp sting in his neck. Fools and gold, together. The book begins with a very unhorde-like activity…building a city.
Also amazing what the Mongols accomplished and what else they might have done had things broken just a big differently. This is truly a book that beats Bernard Cornwell at his own game. This may not be the way that Ghengis would have operated, but it works. Ended too soon and a little unresolved. This is the fourth book that I have read in his Conquerer series which revolves around the formation of the Mongol nation and its subsequent conquering of most of the known world.
In particular, the Song dynasty is a foe that is looming and must be dealt with. Solid historical fiction with continued detail around the Mongol reign. I was super excited when I saw this book at our library and it was one of those books you read slowly because you don’t want to finish. Succession Now that Genghis is dead who will rule and what are the rights of passage to become the Great Khan of the Mongol nation?
Lots and lots of battle scenes told in just the right amount of detail. It’s free and yours to keep. There are events that took place during his reign that truly did shape the world, such as, the invasion of While not the best of the series I still enjoyed Empire of Silver, the fourth in this epic saga on the Mongolian Empire. This is the fourth book and I suppose it could be stand alone, but it would much better if you started at Birth of An Empire.

Needless to say the storytelling is vivid and electric and the battle sequences for there are many are mesmerising. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Instead, it returned to Mongolia to elect a new leader — never to return. Ogedai is the new Khan, but only If I had read this book as a standalone, without its three predecessors, I think that I may have awarded it five stars.
